Mercury Meets Crescent Venus
NASA APOD · Marco Meniero
COSMIC MESSAGE
This is not a bright star and crescent Moon between tree branches. It is Venus in a crescent phase and Mercury. These two inner planets were seen close together in a telescopic view from Italy on May 22, near the western horizon after sunset. Venus, a very bright celestial beacon, is moving lower into the evening twilight. It appears larger and shows a thinner crescent as it heads toward its inferior conjunction.
