Central Lagoon in Infrared

This infrared view of the Lagoon Nebula, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, spans four light-years. While visible light images show glowing gas and obscuring dust, infrared light penetrates the dust. This allows us to see newborn stars scattered within the active star-forming region. The field is crowded with background stars toward the center of our Milky Way galaxy.
