Eclipses often come in pairs, occurring during a 34-day eclipse season twice a year. During these seasons, the Sun, Moon, and Earth can nearly align. The full and new phases of the Moon, separated by just over 14 days, can then produce both a lunar and a solar eclipse. Sometimes the alignment is close enough for a total or annular eclipse of both types.
