NASA APOD · Bray Falls & Keith Quattrocchi
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Dumbbell Nebula, also known as M27, is a planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula. It's the expanding shell of gas from a star that has shed its outer layers, a glimpse into our own Sun's distant future. Discovered in 1764 by Charles Messier, M27 is one of the sky's brightest planetary nebulae, about a thousand light-years away.
