Dark Matter in a Simulated Universe

NASA APOD · Tom Abel & Ralf Kaehler (KIPAC, SLAC), AMNH
COSMIC MESSAGE

This dark matter map from the American Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium Space Show 'Dark Universe' illustrates how our universe might look if we could see dark matter. The gravity of unseen dark matter is the leading explanation for several cosmic phenomena. These include why galaxies rotate so fast, why galaxies orbit clusters so fast, why gravitational lenses strongly deflect light, and how visible matter is distributed.
