COSMIC MESSAGE
This image shows colorful airglow bands surrounding the Milky Way, caused by rippling in Earth's atmosphere. Airglow is always present, but disturbances like approaching storms can make it visible as gravity waves. Red airglow originates from OH molecules about 87 kilometers high, excited by ultraviolet light from the Sun, while orange and green airglow is lower.
