A Filament in Monoceros

NASA APOD · Giorgio Ferrari
COSMIC MESSAGE

This dusty expanse in Monoceros, the Unicorn, is home to bluish reflection nebulae. The image spans over a degree of sky, showing IC 447 on the left and IC 446 on the lower right. A long, dark filament of dust connects them within the Monoceros R1 cloud complex, about 2,500 light-years away. Young, hot blue stars embedded in IC 447 illuminate the cosmic dust clouds.
