The Medusa Nebula, also known as Abell 21, is an old planetary nebula in the constellation Gemini. Its popular name comes from the braided, serpentine filaments of glowing gas. This nebula represents a final stage in the evolution of Sun-like stars. They transform from red giants to hot white dwarfs, shedding their outer layers in the process.
