COSMIC MESSAGE
The Southern Cross and the Alpha Centauri star system, our closest stellar neighbor, grace the southernmost part of the Milky Way. The bright, yellowish star Gamma Crucis tops the cross. A line from Gamma Crucis through Acrux, the blue star at the bottom, points toward the south celestial pole. This image captures these celestial gems over the Maldives in the Indian Ocean.
