Filaprom on the Western Limb

COSMIC MESSAGE
A solar filament is a stream of incandescent plasma suspended above the Sun's active surface by magnetic fields. It appears dark against the solar disk because it is slightly cooler and dimmer than the photosphere. When seen against the blackness of space, the same structure looks bright and is called a solar prominence. This image shows a 'filaprom' on the western limb.
