A Waterspout in Florida
NASA APOD · Joey Mole
COSMIC MESSAGE
A waterspout is a tornado that forms over water. This one was photographed over Florida, a spinning column of moist air rising from the warm ocean. Waterspouts can be dangerous, with winds over 200 kilometers per hour. Some form away from thunderstorms, even in fair weather, and can be transparent, making them hard to spot.
