Flat Rock Hills on Mars

NASA APOD · NASA, JPL-Caltech, MSSS; Processing: Neville Thompson
COSMIC MESSAGE

Mars has many flat rocks, like those seen in this image. This is a result of erosion, a process that happens on both Mars and Earth. The carbon-dioxide wind on Mars blows around gritty sand. This acts like sandpaper, smoothing some rocks while wearing down the tops of others.
