Apollo 17: The Crescent Earth
This stunning photograph from Apollo 17 shows Earth as a curved, sunlit crescent against the blackness of space. From this unfamiliar perspective, our planet appears small, with its entire horizon visible. Astronauts on the International Space Station see much closer views, with clouds, oceans, and continents scrolling by every 90 minutes.
