COSMIC MESSAGE
At the center of the Trifid Nebula, three prominent dust lanes converge, giving the nebula its name. Mountains of opaque dust and dark filaments are threaded throughout the region. A single massive star near the center causes much of the Trifid's glow. This star-forming nebula, cataloged as M20, is only about 300,000 years old.
