In December 2019, photographers traveled to the Rub al-Khali desert in the United Arab Emirates to capture an annular solar eclipse. This type of eclipse, also known as a 'ring of fire,' occurs when the Moon is too far from Earth to completely obscure the Sun. The desert offered clear skies for viewing the Moon's silhouette framed by a bright ring of sunlight.
