Julius Caesar and Leap Days

Julius Caesar reformed the calendar in 46 BC, advised by astronomer Sosigenes of Alexandria. The Julian calendar included a leap day every four years to account for Earth's orbit being slightly more than 365 days. A year is precisely 365.24219 mean solar days long, so without leap days, the calendar would drift from the Earth's true year.
