Messier 87, a giant elliptical galaxy in the Virgo cluster, is home to the supermassive black hole first imaged by the Event Horizon Telescope. This Spitzer Space Telescope infrared image, rendered in blue, shows the galaxy about 55 million light-years away. Although M87 appears mostly featureless, the image reveals relativistic jets blasting from its central region.
