Supernova Remnant CTA 1

NASA APOD · Thomas Lelu
COSMIC MESSAGE

At the heart of the supernova remnant CTA 1, there's a pulsar that remains quiet. Discovered in 1960 through radio waves, this expanding cloud of interstellar debris is the result of a massive star's death. About 10,000 years after the explosion, the remnant is very faint in visible light, and no radio pulses have been detected from its expected neutron star core.
