The Juno mission captured this infrared view of cyclones at Jupiter's north pole in 2018. Eight cyclones surround a central cyclone about 4,000 kilometers in diameter. Infrared observations allow us to see the thermal emission from Jupiter's cloud tops, even in areas not illuminated by sunlight. Scientists are still studying why so many cyclones form there.
