Venus and the Triply Ultraviolet Sun

In 2012, Venus eclipsed the Sun, a rare event where the planet crossed our parent star. As Venus aligned with the Sun, its phase became a continually thinner crescent until it appeared as a dark spot. This transit of Venus could be considered a Venusian annular eclipse, a different kind of solar eclipse than those caused by Earth's Moon.
