The Da Vinci Glow

This image captures a 26-hour-old Moon near the Italian Dolomites. While only a sliver of the Moon is directly lit by the Sun, Earthshine illuminates the rest of its disk. Earthshine is sunlight reflected from Earth's bright surface onto the Moon. Leonardo da Vinci described this phenomenon centuries ago.
