An Unusual Hole in Mars

Mars's surface shows numerous holes, most revealing dark terrain beneath evaporating carbon dioxide ice. The unusual hole on the upper right, about 100 meters across, punches through to a lower level. Its origin and the surrounding circular crater are still debated, though a collapse into a subsurface void is a leading hypothesis.
