Galaxies, Stars, and Dust

NASA APOD · Robert Eder
COSMIC MESSAGE

This field of view, covering over a full Moon on the sky, looks toward the constellation Pegasus. The brighter stars are within our own Milky Way galaxy and show diffraction spikes, an effect of the telescope's internal supports. Faint clouds of interstellar dust, known as galactic cirrus, reflect the Milky Way's starlight.
