COSMIC MESSAGE
The Tulip Nebula blossoms about 8,000 light-years away in Cygnus the Swan. Ultraviolet radiation from young, energetic stars, including O star HDE 227018, ionizes the atoms and powers its emission. This region is also home to Cygnus X-1, a black hole. Stewart Sharpless cataloged this complex and beautiful nebula.
