Comet R3 PanSTARRS over a Himalayan Valley

NASA APOD · Basudeb Chakrabarti & Samit Saha
COSMIC MESSAGE

Comet C/2025 R3 PanSTARRS displays a long, wispy ion tail, stretching across a Himalayan valley in this long-exposure photograph. While barely visible to the unaided eye, cameras can capture its full extent. The comet's tail is primarily due to our nearly sideways view as it points away from the Sun.
