The Running Chicken Nebula, cataloged as IC 2944, is a gaseous region where new stars are forming. It spans about 100 light-years and lies 6,000 light-years away in Centaurus. This 12-hour exposure, shown in scientifically assigned colors, reveals the star cluster Collinder 249 embedded within the glowing gas.
