Venus: Just Passing By

Venus, the second planet from the Sun, is a common waypoint for spacecraft heading to the outer solar system. By using a "gravity assist" maneuver, spacecraft can gain energy as they swing by planets, saving fuel. This colorized image of Venus was recorded by the Galileo spacecraft after its flyby in February 1990.
