Deep Space 1

Deep Space 1, a probe with an ion drive, has been operating smoothly since its restart. This advanced propulsion system generates about 1/50th of a pound of thrust, roughly the force needed to hold up a single sheet of paper. While not designed for rapid acceleration, this steady, low-power thrust is ideal for long-duration space missions.
