The Full Moon

Earth has one moon, a familiar sight in our night sky. It reflects light from the Sun and is often the brightest object we see. The Moon orbits Earth about once a month, roughly one light-second away. A Full Moon, as pictured here, occurs when the Moon is nearly opposite the Sun in its orbit. Its diameter is about a quarter that of Earth.
