Irregular Galaxy Sextans A

While grand spiral galaxies often get attention, small irregular galaxies like Sextans A also form stars. This gumdrop-shaped galaxy, a member of our Local Group, is about 10 million light-years away. It appears here with yellowish foreground stars from our own Milky Way. Irregular galaxies lack a distinct, organized structure but are still active sites of star formation.
