Asteroids in the Distance

Rocks from space hit Earth every day, but larger impacts are less frequent. Small space dust particles fall daily, while baseball-sized rocks usually burn up as meteors. Objects near 100 meters in diameter strike Earth roughly every 1000 years, potentially causing significant tsunamis if they hit the ocean. This image shows a field of distant asteroids, remnants from the early solar system.
