Temperatures on Exoplanet WASP-43b

Exoplanet WASP-43b, a Jupiter-sized world, orbits its star every 0.8 Earth days, just 2 million kilometers out. It is tidally locked, meaning one side always faces its star. On this dayside, temperatures reach a scorching 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, as measured by the James Webb Space Telescope's MIRI instrument. This illustration shows the exoplanet's close orbit and extreme conditions.
