COSMIC MESSAGE

Meteors, or shooting stars, are typically bits of dust from comet tails or asteroid fragments. As they fall to Earth, they enter the atmosphere at high speeds, and friction causes them to glow brightly. In this picture, however, the bright streaks are not meteors, but rather the jettisoned panels of the Apollo 13 service module.
