Starburst Galaxy M94
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
M94 is a spiral galaxy with a prominent ring of bright, young stars. This feature is especially visible in ultraviolet light, as shown in this image from the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope. Such a high concentration of young blue stars leads to M94 being classified as a starburst galaxy. Many of these stars likely formed when a density wave compressed gas within the galaxy.
