COSMIC MESSAGE
NGC 2440 is a planetary nebula, the glowing gas cloud left behind when a star like our Sun dies. At its center is a white dwarf, the star's super-dense core. This white dwarf is one of the hottest stars known, with a surface temperature over 200,000 degrees Celsius, making it glow with more than 250 times the Sun's intrinsic brightness.
