COSMIC MESSAGE
At the heart of the Trifid Nebula's glowing red gas lies a cluster of hot, young stars. Their energetic light ionizes hydrogen atoms in the surrounding nebula. When electrons recombine with protons, they emit specific colors, creating the red glow seen here. The dark sheets are made of interstellar dust grains.
