MyCn18: An Hourglass Nebula
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Hubble Space Telescope captured this image of MyCn18, an hourglass-shaped planetary nebula. The central star, having exhausted its nuclear fuel, is shedding its outer layers. Delicate rings of glowing gas, red from nitrogen and green from hydrogen, form as the star's core becomes a cooling white dwarf.
