On January 13, a Full Moon and a Full Mars were close in Earth's sky, both bright and opposite the Sun. From some locations in North America and northwest Africa, Mars was occulted, passing behind the Moon. This composite image sequence from Richmond, Virginia, follows the lunar occultation before, during, and after the event.
