The Cone Nebula is a pillar of gas and dust within the larger NGC 2264 region in Monoceros. The dark, cone-shaped structure is about seven light-years long. It is thought to be sculpted by powerful stellar winds from nearby massive stars. The nebula is a site of ongoing star formation.
