COSMIC MESSAGE
The Helix Nebula is a planetary nebula, the remnant of a Sun-like star. The Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 captured this detailed image of its inner edge. The nebula is composed of gas shells ejected by the hot central star. Ultraviolet radiation from the star energizes the gas atoms, causing them to glow.
