NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
At the heart of the Rosette Nebula, a young open cluster named NGC 2244 shines. Its bright blue stars emit ultraviolet light, ionizing the surrounding hydrogen gas. As electrons recombine with hydrogen atoms, they emit the red light that defines this emission nebula. The Rosette Nebula is thousands of light-years away, in the constellation Monoceros.
