Leo Triplet Spiral Galaxy M65

NASA APOD · Anglo-Australian Telescope Board
COSMIC MESSAGE

M65 is a spiral galaxy in the Leo Triplet, a lot like our own Milky Way. It's classified as an "Sa" type, meaning it has tightly wound spiral arms and a large central bulge. The stars in that central bulge are older and redder than the bluer, younger stars in the disk. This is a common feature in spiral galaxies throughout the local universe.
