A Wolf-Rayet Star Bubble

NASA APOD · Anglo-Australian Telescope Board
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image shows a spherical bubble and sweeping arc created by a Wolf-Rayet star. Wolf-Rayet stars originate with over 40 times the mass of our Sun. These extremely hot, luminous stars expel shells of material through strong stellar winds, which likely formed the surrounding bubble nebula. Astronomers are still working to understand how the central Wolf-Rayet star created both the bubble and the arc, and if it acted alone.
