This X-ray image of the Moon was taken by the ROSAT satellite in 1990. It shows the Moon reflecting X-rays emitted by the Sun, creating a bright crescent. The dark side of the Moon, in shadow, stands out against the diffuse cosmic X-ray background. Even the shadowed region is not completely dark, indicating some background X-ray emission.
