The International Ultraviolet Explorer, IUE, operated for 18 years, from 1978 to 1996. This geostationary orbiting observatory acquired over 100,000 observations with its ultraviolet spectrographs. It helped scientists answer fundamental questions about the formation and evolution of planets, stars, and galaxies. The all-sky plot shows the distribution of its observations across the sky.
