COSMIC MESSAGE

What determines a star's color? Its temperature. Red stars are cool, around 3,000 Kelvin, while blue stars are hotter, over 30,000 Kelvin. Our own yellow Sun is a comfortable 6,000 Kelvin. Differences in star colors are dramatically illustrated in this photo of Orion, made using a 'star trail step-focus' technique.
