COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 253 is a spiral galaxy seen nearly edge-on, about 10 million light-years distant in the Sculptor Group. It's the largest member of this group, which is the closest galaxy group to our own Local Group. NGC 253 is considered a "starburst" galaxy due to its high rate of new star formation and dense dust clouds in its central region.
