COSMIC MESSAGE

This image shows the nucleus of Comet Halley, captured by the Giotto spacecraft in 1986. For most active comets, only the opaque gas cloud, or coma, is visible. Giotto was able to fly close to Halley and photograph its nucleus directly. This composite image reveals the true appearance of this famous comet's core.
