COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet Hale-Bopp, a giant snowball of ice and rock, appeared above the Cinque Torri Mountains in Italy. This comet was one of the brightest and longest-observed comets of the 20th century. It is now receding from the Sun and will return to the inner solar system in about 2,400 years.
