COSMIC MESSAGE
Hidden by gas and dust, the massive star NGC 2264 IRS is usually invisible to optical telescopes. The Hubble Space Telescope's NICMOS instrument used infrared light to peer through the obscuring material. It revealed NGC 2264 IRS surrounded by six smaller, sun-like stars, all within a tenth of a light-year of their larger sibling in the Cone Nebula.
